From Challenge to Resolution
Three anonymised case studies illustrating the kinds of situations families have brought to Wongsakan, and how matters developed.
Case Study 1 — Consensual Divorce with Asset Division
A Thai-British couple sought to dissolve their marriage after twelve years. Both parties were broadly in agreement but unclear on how to divide jointly-held property and a savings account with assets in two jurisdictions.
We worked with both parties' agreement to prepare a separation and asset division document under Thai civil code, advising separately on the UK-held savings. Court registration was handled by our team with a single joint appearance required.
Completed in approximately eleven weeks. Both parties signed and the court registration was completed without dispute. The client noted that the process felt calmer than expected given the circumstances.
Case Study 2 — Custody Arrangements for Three Children
Parents with three children aged 4, 8, and 12 needed to agree on custody and support arrangements. The parents were living in different parts of Bangkok, and the children were at different schools with different schedules.
We mapped the children's existing routines and school commitments before drafting a parenting plan. A mediator from the team helped both parents reach agreement on holiday allocation and handover logistics, which were the main points of contention.
A workable parenting plan was agreed in four sessions over six weeks. A formal custody order was obtained from the court to make the arrangement legally binding. The plan included a built-in review clause for when the youngest started secondary school.
Case Study 3 — Sibling Dispute Resolved Through Mediation
Two adult siblings disagreed over the management of a family property following the death of a parent. Communication had broken down and both were considering court action, which would have been costly and slow.
We suggested mediation as a first step before any court filing. Pre-session consultations were held separately with each sibling to understand their concerns. Two joint mediation sessions followed, facilitated by our certified mediator.
An agreement on property management and eventual sale conditions was reached and documented. Court proceedings were avoided entirely. The total process took eight weeks and cost a fraction of what litigation would have involved.
